How to Improvise

Harmony - Intervals

The best way to “hear” harmony is to start with intervals. Listen to each type of interval and improvise using intervals in parallel motion. Video notes A major third sounds nice whereas a minor second sounds horrid. Intervals have qualities that make them immediately recognisable (with practice!): Unison – just one note Second – sounds nasty, notes are close together Third – sounds nice, notes are close together Fourth – sounds strong and bold, sounds unfinished (needs to resolve)...
