Suggested Plan for the Opening Phrase

Here is my suggested plan for the opening eight-bar phrase. Hairpin crescendos and diminuendos should not be too exaggerated. The short squiggle indicates a very slight relaxing of the tempo. Tenutos indicate more weight, and the fermatas suggest magic moments where you can linger a little. Arrows suggest a movement forward as though you had the wind behind you. Pedal Chopin has not given any pedal marks for this piece. I suggest a few touches of pedal for resonance and colour for the opening phrase (see above). Bass notes occurring on first beats...
