Membership Questions
What is included in the core library?
Membership includes full access to the Online Academy's core library of more than 1,000 video lessons, articles and practical resources covering areas including practising, technique, repertoire, sight-reading, theory and performance.
Are all courses included with membership?
No. Right From the Start and selected guided series and mini-courses within the core library are included. Some larger specialist courses are available separately, with Online Academy subscribers receiving discounts of at least 20% and up to 60% on selected programmes.
Why aren't workshops and events automatically included with membership?
Members use the Academy in different ways. Some regularly attend workshops and events, while others prefer to focus on the core library or choose only occasional events that are particularly relevant to them.
Keeping these programmes separate allows you to choose the subjects and experiences that interest you rather than paying for a fixed programme you may not use. Members receive 40% off online presentations, interactive workshops and audience places for performance workshops, while performer places in performance workshops use a separate booking model with priority booking for members.
Can I attend events without becoming a member?
Yes. Online events can be booked individually without an Academy subscription. Members receive the relevant subscriber event benefits.
Can I purchase courses without becoming a member?
Yes. Selected premium courses are available for individual purchase. Online Academy members receive substantial discounts on many of these courses.
Is the Academy suitable for independent learners?
Yes. Many members learn independently and use the Academy for reliable guidance, structured resources and different expert perspectives. The Academy is also widely used alongside individual lessons and is designed to complement rather than replace a teacher.
Can I use the Academy alongside lessons?
Absolutely. Much of a pianist's development takes place between and around lessons. The Academy can help you practise more effectively, explore specialist topics in greater depth and broaden aspects of your musical development that may not always fit within regular lesson time.
Is the Academy suitable for complete beginners?
The Online Academy is not designed to teach piano completely from scratch. Once you have made a basic start and can begin working on simple pieces, however, you will find a wide range of resources to help you establish stronger foundations and continue developing.
Can I cancel my membership?
Yes. You can turn off automatic renewal at any time from your account and continue using the Academy until the end of your current subscription period. We will also send you a renewal notification by email at least two weeks before your renewal date.
Annual eBooks and study editions already added to your library remain available even if you choose not to renew. Separately purchased courses, recordings and other products remain separate purchases and are not dependent on an active subscription.
Can I change from monthly to annual membership?
Yes. You can upgrade from monthly to annual membership, with the unused portion of your existing subscription credited on a pro-rata basis.
How do subscriber discounts work?
Simply sign in to your Online Academy account before purchasing an eligible event or premium course. Your subscriber price will be applied automatically at checkout.
Can I use the Academy on different devices?
Yes. You can sign in to your account and access the Online Academy across different supported devices.
